Alabama whitewater - Black River, Etowah County Etowah county, Noccalula Park campground to Tuscaloosa Avenue section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-V+     1.5 miles   The wonderful Etowah County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Black River will make you feel great. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Gadsden, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Noccalula Park campground to Tuscaloosa Avenue section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Alabama you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so     you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This section of Black River in Etowah County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V+ section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: The Brow is an exciting location to check out while at Black River. The high level of precipitation makes Black River a rather wet location; most of the rain falls during March, and October is when it's the driest. You'll meet a lot of people from Gadsden here; a short spree to Noccalula Falls is   always worthwhile. Summertime at Black River comes with high temperatures in the 80's; throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's; night lows all through the wintertime for Black River tend to be in the 20's.
