  The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Gadsden, as you can see on the road map further down. The Noccalula Park campground to Tuscaloosa Avenue stretch of Black River in Alabama is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-V+ section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Alabama and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Alabama you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget
    that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The Noccalula Park campground to
Tuscaloosa Avenue section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
A short visit to Noccalula Falls is always worthwhile. For the duration of the warm months at Black River highs are usually in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are ordinarily in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Black River are
 
in the 20's.
The Brow is an exciting site to pop by while at Black River, and you'll meet a lot of people from Gadsden here. The high level of precipitation makes Black River a rather wet spot; all through March this area sees the most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
