The nature scenery of Alabama and the water flowing gracefully down Black River have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Gadsden, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This section of Black River in Etowah County is 1.5 miles long and has
been rated as a class II-V+ section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd
better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Noccalula Park campground to Tuscaloosa Avenue section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the long summer days here at Black River, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime
come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Black River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. The high level of precipitation makes Black River a rather wet spot; most of the rain falls during March, and the driest month is October. A short journey to Noccalula
Falls is always worthwhile. The Brow is an exciting spot to visit while at Black River, and you'll meet a lot of people from Gadsden here.
