This stretch of Blackwater Creek in Walker County is 8.9 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The scenic beauty of Walker County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. On this
section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling
rivers. This is the only paddling stretch along Blackwater Creek. The campgrounds here at Blackwater Creek are pretty good. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Blackwater Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; March is the month that gets the most rain; October is the month with the least moisture. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Blackwater Creek. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Blackwater Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
