The beautiful scenery of Elmore County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Montgomery, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Coosa River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the CR 213 or dam to River Road stretch is the only one. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all     set. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Alabama you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well stop by Moccasin Shoals. Coosa River gets a great deal of water; through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is October. For the period of the summer months   at Coosa River temperatures are typically in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 60's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Coosa River.
