  The starting point is not too far from Albertville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Rice Mill Road to Short Creek stretch of Drum Creek is 0.85 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
    The wonderful Alabama scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The campgrounds here at Drum Creek are pretty good. Drum Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Rice Mill Road to Short Creek stretch is the only one. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. This is an extremely short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Lodging is available near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
During the long summer days highs here at Drum Creek reach the 90's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are generally in the 50's; overnight lows at Drum Creek all through the
 
winter typically plunge into the 30's. Don't leave Drum Creek without first paying a visit to Short Creek Falls, and what would a place like Drum Creek be without out of the ordinary nearby characteristics like Blue Bend.
The high level of precipitation makes Drum Creek a quite wet location; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month of the year is October.
