Alabama whitewater, Dry Creek

Marshall county, CR 44 to Lake Guntersville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     2 miles
The scenic beauty of Alabama and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Albertville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.
This section is quite short so no need to bring snacks. The CR 44 to Lake Guntersville section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch of Dry Creek is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class
IV-V section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The campgrounds here at Dry Creek are pretty good.

Briefly about the general

Why not check out Berry Point also while you're here, and you could always look at King Gap. Buck's Pocket State Park is both fine and pretty, and it's close to Dry Creek, and no need to travel far to pop by attention-grabbing stuff like Blue Bend. This is such a wonderful river. Lake Guntersville State Park is a magnificent spot to stop by on a delightful day, and Dry Creek is not far at all from Langston. Summertime highs at Dry Creek typically tend to be in the 90's. During the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Dry Creek dip into the 30's.
