The natural beauty of Alabama and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Elkahatchee Road to SR 63 stretch of Elkahatchee Creek is 1.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming
back for more. The campgrounds here at Elkahatchee Creek are pretty good. This is a very short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Lodging is available near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Talladega-Sylacauga, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are no other sections to paddle along Elkahatchee Creek than the Elkahatchee Road to SR 63 section.
