Blount
county,
1st bridge upstream to Locust Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 1.5 miles
This section of Graves Creek in Blount County is 1.5 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Alabama and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Cullman it's not a long drive at all to
the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. There are no other sections to paddle along Graves Creek than the 1st bridge upstream to Locust Fork section. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are
campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
