  This section of Gurley Creek is 3.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Alabama and the water flowing gracefully down Gurley Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Birmingham-Hoover, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The campgrounds here at Gurley Creek are pretty good. The Narrows Road to State Route 79 section is the only paddling section along Gurley Creek. The average Alabama whitewater
    rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.
