The put-in location is a short drive from Summerville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The CR 127 to State Route 176 stretch of Hicks Creek in Dekalb County is 1.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV(V) section. This stretch is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alabama tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less
manageable. The scenic beauty of Alabama and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Hicks Creek doesn't have a
lot of paddling sections, the CR 127 to State Route 176 section is the only one. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
