If you're coming from Summerville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Johnnies Creek in Alabama is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the CR 47 to Canyon Rim Road section is one
of them. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nature scenery of Alabama and the beautiful way the water current moves down
the stream beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
