The Highway 71 to BSA camp section of Jones Creek in Jackson County is 7.29 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Scottsboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Alabama scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Highway 71 to BSA camp section is the only paddling section along Jones Creek. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking in Alabama is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
