Alabama whitewater - Kirby Creek, Jackson County Jackson county, Rock City to South Sauty Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     2.4 miles   This stretch of Kirby Creek in Alabama is 2.4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alabama are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The nature scenery of Jackson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Rock City to South Sauty Creek section is the only paddling section along Kirby Creek.     If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. If you're coming from Scottsboro it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Kirby Creek throughout the wintertime mostly fall into the 20's.
