This stretch of Miller/Long Island Creek in Jackson County is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alabama are harder than the national norm, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Scottsboro, please
print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is the only paddling stretch along Miller/Long
Island Creek. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There's camping available near Miller/Long Island Creek.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Miller/Long Island Creek, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with temperatures at Miller/Long Island Creek dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights. This river has so much to offer. It's always delightful
to go to Gray Spring. If you're here at Miller/Long Island Creek, do take a tour to Hollaway Point, and obviously, A journey to Griffin Gulf is always fun. A trip to Gross Spring will fill your spirit with brilliant feelings, and do pay a visit to Russell Cave National Monument
