The wonderful Alabama scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Miller/Long Island Creek beats anything. The Rt. 71 to Lake Guntersville stretch of Miller/Long Island Creek in Jackson County is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places
for that around here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Scottsboro it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking spots in Alabama are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
