Salt Creek Road to Henderson Lake Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV(V) 3 miles
Paddling Salt Creek crosses private land and in Alabama if you can't navigate it in a craft of somekind you are tresspassing as soon as you step out of the craft. The last 2 miles before Henderson Lake road is all private land. It is so low and narrow with dead falls everywhere there is no way to navigate it in any kind of craft. Says John Ponder
The natural beauty of Alabama and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Salt Creek Road to Henderson Lake Road section of Salt Creek in
Talladega County is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alabama are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are
not as easy as elsewhere. This section is quite short so no need to bring snacks. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There's camping available near Salt Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. This is the only paddling section along Salt Creek. The put-in location is a short drive from Anniston-Oxford, as you can see on the road map further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay
the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
