The scenic beauty of Alabama and the water flowing gracefully down Shoal Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The CR 240 to Wheeler Lake section of Shoal Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled     as well. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: If you're keen on cool geologic marks, try Blue Rock Bluff. Long Hollow is a good spot to spend some time at; Blowing Cave Spring is a pretty location to stop by while you're at Shoal Creek. All through the summertime highs here at Shoal Creek get into the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter   nights at Shoal Creek are in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Shoal Creek a wet site; most of the rain falls throughout March, and October is the month with the least moisture.
