Marshall

Highway 68 to Guntersville Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 5.4 miles
We have had a really bad drought this year. In fact, one of the most severe in history. I'm sorry you had that experience. Most locals can tell visitors about the condition of the creek, as any of us could have cautioned you about the weather conditions causing lack of creek water. Sincerely, Brenda F Says Brenda Fraioli
I done this stretch yesterday (9/15/07) We started at 12:30 and got stranded at dark because the water level was too low. We did hit several class III to IV's but then the creek dried up about 2 miles before Guntersville. It sucked.
If you go, leave in the morning and make sure the water level is up. Says Michael Hempel
The starting point is not too far from Albertville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Highway 68 to Guntersville Lake stretch of Short
Creek is 5.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Alabama you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Lodging is available near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise
and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Highway 68 to Guntersville Lake section is one of them. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly
about the general area: A short spree to Short Creek Falls is always worthwhile, and since you're here you should visit Berry Point. No need to travel far to go to out of the ordinary stuff like Blue Bend; since you're here, you might as well pop by Harrison Gap. The surroundings
of this river have so much to offer. All the water falling down from the sky makes Short Creek a wet spot; throughout the month of March you get the most rain around here, and October is the month with the least moisture. During the summer at Short Creek temperatures are usually
in the 90's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 60's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Short Creek are in the 30's.
