Alabama whitewater - Sougahatchee Creek, Lee County

Lee county, Co Road 188 to Steel Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II(IV)     3 miles
The wonderful Lee County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Sougahatchee Creek in Alabama is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(IV) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alabama are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and a
chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. This is the only paddling stretch along Sougahatchee Creek. There aren’t any
hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The put-in is not too far from Tuskegee, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.

Briefly about the general area:
All the water falling down from the sky makes Sougahatchee Creek a wet location; during the month of March you get the most rain around here while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime highs at Sougahatchee Creek commonly

tend to be in the 90's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's, and overnight lows at Sougahatchee Creek all through the wintertime commonly sink into the 20's.
