Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alabama is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. If you're coming from Summerville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This stretch of South Sauty Creek in Dekalb/Jackson County is 7.15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Whether
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping
people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The natural beauty of Dekalb/Jackson County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. South Sauty Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Intersection of County Roads 41 and 56 to Bucks Pocket stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm days of summer highs here at South Sauty Creek reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's. The wintertime comes
with highs in the 40's while South Sauty Creek nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. A short journey to Waterloo Spring is always worthwhile. South Sauty Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; through March this area sees the most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
