The nature scenery of Dekalb/Jackson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The put-in is not too far from Summerville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Creek is 7.15 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and
a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Waterloo Spring. The high level of precipitation makes South Sauty Creek a pretty wet place; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains
the most, and October meanwhile is the driest month. During the days of summer, highs generally are in the 80's at South Sauty Creek, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at South Sauty Creek drop into the 20's.
