CLASS IV-V+ 2 miles
The starting location is a short drive from Scottsboro, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The beautiful scenery of Jackson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This stretch
of Turkey Creek is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There are no other sections to paddle along Turkey Creek than the Walls of Jericho
Gorge section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Turkey Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; March is the wettest month with most rain; August meanwhile is the driest month. This river is so perfect. Polly Anne Spring is a picturesque spot to stop by while you're at Turkey Creek, and while
you're here at Turkey Creek, checking out Walls of Jericho is a must. A great place near Turkey Creek is Poplar Hollow, and some interesting geology is available here, Walls Jericho is right here. At Turkey Creek all through the summer highs are in the 80's while nighttime lows
are typically in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Turkey Creek.
