The natural beauty of Jackson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The Walls of Jericho Gorge stretch of Turkey Creek in Jackson County is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The Walls
of Jericho Gorge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Turkey Creek. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The starting point is not too far from Scottsboro, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a pretty short
section so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: A lot of rain falls at Turkey Creek; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while August is the month with the least amount of precipitation. You need to go to Walls of Jericho while you're here at Turkey Creek, and Poplar Hollow is another brilliant place to stop
by close by. This river is so perfect. If you want to take a look at some exciting stuff, take a look at Walls Jericho, and do put some time aside to spend at Polly Anne Spring while you're here at Turkey Creek. Summertime highs at Turkey Creek commonly tend to be in the 80's.
All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Turkey Creek night low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's.
