This stretch of Wolf Creek in Alabama is 0.5 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alabama are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The starting point is not too far from Summerville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are some good stretches to paddle
in this river system, the Rt. 176 to Little River stretch is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of
paddling places. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The scenic beauty of DeKalb County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Thomson Gap is next to Wolf Creek and is a pleasant spot. Through the months of summer, highs mostly are in the 80's at Wolf Creek with night lows in the 60's. Highs through the winter are commonly in the 40's, and
after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Wolf Creek fall into the 20's. Wolf Creek is a rather wet place mostly with much rain; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October is the month with the least moisture.
