The starting location is a short drive from Anchorage, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Alaska and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are no other sections to paddle along Bird Creek than the 5 miles upstream to Turnagain Arm section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The wild scenery of the Chugach Mountains is great. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section
of Bird Creek in -blank- Borough is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving.
