Alaska whitewater, Campbell Creek

Anchorage county, Powerline pass to Hilltop Ski area section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     2.5 miles
The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nature scenery of Anchorage Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Campbell Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping
people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your
kayak back to put-in a few times. The Powerline pass to Hilltop Ski area stretch of Campbell Creek in Anchorage Borough is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Anchorage, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
