Lower Canyon to Tidewater section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III(IV) 2 miles
The nature scenery of Alaska and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Juneau, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled
as well. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This stretch of Carlson Creek is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that.
