CBJ
county,
Lower Canyon to Tidewater section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III(IV) 2 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This stretch of Carlson Creek is 2 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of CBJ Borough and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. There's camping available near Carlson
Creek. If you're coming from Juneau it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time
outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful Chugach Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Lower Canyon to Tidewater section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
