The 30 Mile Airstrip to Matanuska section of Chickaloon River in Alaska is 33 miles long and is a class III+(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Alaska and the cool fresh water beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Talkeetna
Mountains is great. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. The 30 Mile Airstrip to Matanuska section is the only paddling
section along Chickaloon River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Chickaloon River. Summer overnight lows dip down to the 40's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 10's; nighttime lows at Chickaloon River throughout the wintertime ordinarily plunge into the-10's. Chickaloon River gets very little precipitation; the wettest
month of the year is typically July, that's the one that rains the most, and April on the other hand is the driest. Chickaloon River is right by the Chickaloon River Trail.
