Alaska whitewater - Chistochina River, Alaska Range, unknown Borough
Chistochina Glacier to Copper River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 52 miles
The Chistochina Glacier to Copper River section of Chistochina River is 52 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. There are no other sections to paddle along Chistochina River
than the Chistochina Glacier to Copper River section. The river winds through the Alaska Range and you get great scenery. The natural beauty of unknown Borough and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. You might have to settle for a
hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
