River to Chitina stretch of Chitina River in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 55 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if
| you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. Chitina River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Nizina River to Chitina section is the only one. Whitewater paddling here in the Wrangell Mountains is a great experience.

Chitina River is frequently a relatively dry place; through July this area sees the most rain while April is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Summer brings highs in the 60's to Chitina River, and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 0's, and night lows during the wintertime for Chitina River tend to be in the-20's.
