  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Wrangell Mountains scenery is wonderful. This section of Chitina River in Alaska is 55 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. This is the only paddling stretch along Chitina River. A good
    workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There's camping available near Chitina River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. A stretch this long is of course
too much for a one day trip, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

Briefly about the general area:
Chitina River is pretty dry usually; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is April.
At Chitina River through the warm months highs are in the 60's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 0's with winter lows in the-20's overnight here at Chitina River.
