  The scenic beauty of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Chitistone River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Chitistone River is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Wrangell Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers.
    There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The average Alaska whitewater
rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. There are no other stretches to paddle along Chitistone River than the Glacier Creek to Nizina River stretch.

For the period of the days of summer, highs frequently are in the 70's at Chitistone River while nighttime lows are usually in the 40's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the-10's with temperatures at Chitistone River dipping down into the-30's
 
through winter nights. Not much rain falls here at Chitistone River; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and March is the month with the least moisture.
Peavine Bar is near Chitistone River and is certainly a great spot to visit.
