This section of Chitistone River in Alaska is 9 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Alaska and the playfulness of the water beats anything. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. When you're paddling
down a Wrangell Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Chitistone River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Glacier Creek to Nizina River section is the only one. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.
Briefly about the general area: Peavine Bar is a splendid location to discover. Not much rainfall falls here at Chitistone River; July is when you get the most rain here; the driest month is March. Summertime highs at Chitistone River ordinarily tend to be in the 70's while nighttime lows are ordinarily in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the-10's with temperatures at Chitistone River dipping down into the-30's throughout winter nights.
