The Copper Glacier to Gulkana River section of Copper River is 125 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Copper River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer here at Copper River, high temperatures commonly reach the 60's; the overnight is a little colder of course, commonly in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 0's, and winter nights come with lows in the-20's to Copper River. Copper River is usually a rather waterless location; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month is April.
