Alaska whitewater, Copper River

Valdez-Cordova Census Area county, Copper Glacier to Gulkana River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     125 miles
The nature scenery of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Copper River attract people from near and far. The Copper Glacier to Gulkana River section of Copper River is 125 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. A good workout
and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. If you're a camper you can camp at
one of the great campgrounds nearby. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so it looks like
you will be camping out.
