The Lower Canyon to Tidewater section of Carlson Creek in CBJ Borough is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Juneau, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. This river system has a few good paddling sections and
the Lower Canyon to Tidewater section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature
are great reasons to come. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Much precipitation falls at Carlson Creek; most of the rain falls throughout October, and the driest of the months is April. High temperatures at Carlson Creek throughout the warm months are in the 60's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Carlson Creek.
