Alaska whitewater - Copper River, Aleutian Range, Lake and Peninsula Borough

Lake and Peninsula county, Lower or Upper Copper Lake to Lower Pike Lake or Intricate Bay section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     18 miles
The Lower or Upper Copper Lake to Lower Pike Lake or Intricate Bay section of Copper River is 18 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Lake and Peninsula Borough and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper
you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget
that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The river winds through the Aleutian Range and you get great scenery. This is the only paddling stretch along Copper River.
