The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. River is 18 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The Lower or Upper Copper Lake to Lower Pike Lake or Intricate Bay section is the only paddling section along Copper River. The river winds through the Aleutian Range and you get great scenery.
For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The nature scenery of Alaska and the water flowing gracefully down Copper River attract people from near and far.
Briefly about the general area: An average amount of rainfall falls at Copper River; most of the rain falls all through September; June is the month with the least moisture. Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Copper River. Once the sun is down it sinks down
to the 40's. Highs during the winter are generally in the 20's while Copper River nighttime low temperatures all through the winter are in the 0's.
