The starting point is not too far from Juneau, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Alaska and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There's camping available near Eagle River. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable.     You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Eagle River frequently tend to be in the 60's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 40's. Through the wintertime the highs are generally in the 20's; overnight lows in the 20's for Eagle River. Eagle River gets a great deal of water; the month with most of the rain is October, and the driest month is April.
