Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Lake to Veterans Memorial Highway stretch is the only paddling stretch     along Eagle River. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The starting point is not too far from Juneau, as you can see on the road map further down. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Montana Creek Trail is pleasant fun. Eagle River is a quite wet place typically with a great deal of precipitation; October is when you get the most rain here; the driest month is April.   For the period of the warm months, highs regularly are in the 60's at Eagle River. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Eagle River dip into the 20's.
