This stretch of Eagle River is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The scenic beauty of Alaska and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Juneau, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on
this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. There's camping available near Eagle River. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. When you're paddling down a Chugach Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The Lake to Veterans Memorial Highway stretch is the only paddling stretch along Eagle River.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer months, highs generally are in the 60's at Eagle River, and
during summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 20's with temperatures at Eagle River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. Lots of precipitation falls at Eagle River; most of the rain falls all through October; April meanwhile is the driest month. Hiking along the Montana Creek Trail is great fun.
