This stretch of Eagle River in Anchorage Borough is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The scenic beauty of Alaska and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and spending some quality time
in nature will make you glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. The
Echo Bend to Rapids Camp section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The beauty of the Chugach Mountains is a great plus for this river. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: At Eagle River you don’t see much rainfall; September is the month that gets the most rain, and April is when it's the driest. During the months of summer highs here at Eagle River get into the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's; overnight lows at Eagle River throughout the wintertime regularly plunge into the 0's.
