The Upper section of Eagle River in Anchorage Borough is 15 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I section of whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might     end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Upper section is just one of them. Briefly about the general area: Summertime at Eagle River comes with high temperatures in the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. During the winter highs are usually in the 10's, and night lows through the winter for Eagle River tend to be in the 0's. Around   Eagle River you don’t get a lot of rain; through the month of September you get the most rain around here, and April is the month with the least moisture.
