If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Alaska you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The scenic beauty of Alaska and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section of Eagle River in Alaska is 15 miles
long and is a class I section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that
around here. The put-in location is a short drive from Anchorage, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Upper section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime at Eagle River arrives with high temperatures in the 60's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 10's, and night lows at Eagle River throughout the wintertime mostly sink into the 0's. It is very dried up here at Eagle River typically; September is the month that gets the most rain; April meanwhile is the driest month.
