This section of Eagle River in Anchorage Borough is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Eagle River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're
willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll
find lots of paddling spots. The scenic beauty of Anchorage Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Military Stretch stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: Alpenglow At Arctic Valley is a very popular ski area nearby. At Eagle River you don’t see much rainfall; September is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is April. Summer brings highs in the 60's to Eagle River. Once the
sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 10's, and night lows in the 0's for Eagle River.
