This section of Eagle River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Anchorage, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of Anchorage Borough and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. There are so many
sections to paddle in this river system, the Military Stretch section is just one of many. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots
of paddling places. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.

Hit the slopes at Alpenglow At Arctic Valley in the vicinity. Summer brings highs in the 60's to Eagle River with night lows in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's while the cold winter nights at Eagle River are in the 0's.
