The beautiful scenery of North Slope Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Firth River beats anything. The Margaret Lake to Beaufort Sea stretch of Firth River in Alaska is 99 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling stretch along Firth River. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The wild scenery of the Brooks Range is great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult
than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Firth River usually tend to be in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 40's. Through the winter the highs are generally in the-10's with winter lows in the-30's overnight here at Firth River. Firth River is a location that is rather dehydrated generally; most of the rain falls through July; the driest month of the year is March.
