  The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The scenic beauty of Alaska and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Gakona River in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 92 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general
    area you won't find many other paddling rivers. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The campgrounds here at Gakona River are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Gakona River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Gakona Glacier to Copper River section is the only one. The wild scenery of the Alaska Range is great.
