If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Wrangell Mountains scenery is wonderful. Gilahina River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the McCarthy Road section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay     the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
