This stretch of Glacier River in Alaska is 4.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Chugach Mountains is a great experience. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels
nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. A bit of exercise and spending some quality
time in nature have people coming from far and near. The Sheridan Glacier to Copper River Highway section is the only paddling section along Glacier River. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: At Glacier River during the summertime months highs are in the 60's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Glacier River dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. Going for a hike along the Sheridan Mountain Trail will
let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Lake Elsner Trail. Man, is there lots of fun things to do in the Chugach Mountains. Glacier River is a relatively wet place mostly with a good deal of rain; September is the wettest month with most rain while July is typically the driest month.
