This stretch of Gold Creek in City & Borough of Juneau Borough is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful City & Borough of Juneau Borough scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Gold Creek have people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Juneau, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This section is quite short so it's not
like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. There are nice comfortable
hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling section along Gold Creek.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Gold Creek a rather wet place; most of the rain falls during October; the driest month of the year is April. The Mount Roberts Trail is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Gold Creek, and you're sure to run into some fine people from Juneau here. Near Gold Creek you locate Gold Creek Valley which is a good place to visit; a short
visit to Ebner Falls is always worthwhile. During the warm months here at Gold Creek, high temperatures generally reach the 60's. Through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. During the wintertime highs are regularly in the 20's, and nighttime lows during the winter for
Gold Creek tend to be in the 20's. This river is a great place to visit. Near Gold Creek you stumble on the Moller Ski Trail which is a great hiking trail, and if you want to hit the beach, Ready Bullion Beach is in the vicinity.
