This section of Gravel Creek in Alaska is 11.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV+ section. The nature scenery of Alaska and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other rivers.
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so pack your sleeping bag. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The wild scenery of the Talkeetna Mountains is great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Gravel Creek Glacier to Matanuska River section is the only paddling section along Gravel Creek.
