The scenic beauty of Southeast Fairbanks Census Area Borough and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section of Jarvis Creek is 14 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit
to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. This section
has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Jarvis Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Trail above McCumber Creek to Trail below Ober Creek (Jarvis Creek Canyon) section is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: At Jarvis Creek during the warm days of summer highs are in the 60's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 0's with winter lows in the-20's overnight here at Jarvis Creek. It is very dried out here at Jarvis Creek frequently; July is the month that gets the most rain, and March on the other hand is the driest.
