Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is the only paddling     section along Kenai River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Kenai Lake to Skilak Lake section of Kenai River in Kenai Peninsula Borough is 18 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: Near Kenai River you hit upon the Schooner Bend Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. Summertime highs at Kenai River usually tend to be in the 60's. Through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Kenai River. Going for a hike on the Russian Lakes Trail is always a great adventure, and don't leave Kenai River without first checking   out Schooner Bend. At Kenai River you don’t see much precipitation; during the month of September you get the most rain around here, and April is when it's the driest.
