Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nature scenery of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. There are no other sections to paddle along Kiagna River than the Gravel bar to Chitina River section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. This section of Kiagna River is 19 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+
section. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Kiagna River gets very little precipitation; most of the rain falls throughout July while March is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Kiagna River through the summertime months highs are in the 60's, and the night is somewhat chillier of course,
commonly in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the-20's with temperatures at Kiagna River dipping down into the-30's during winter nights.
