  The Nugget Creek to McCarthy Road section of Kuskulana River is 19 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV+ section. The scenic beauty of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Kuskulana River have people coming here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but
    you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there
are not so many other good spots for that around here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Wrangell Mountains and you get great scenery. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff.
