  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty
    small number of paddling spots. This stretch of Kuskulana River in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 19 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV+ section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Nugget Creek to McCarthy Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The Wrangell Mountains scenery is wonderful. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
