Matanuska-Susitna
county,
Chelatna Lake to Yentna River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III+ 55 miles
The Chelatna Lake to Yentna River section of Lake Creek is 55 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+ section. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Lake Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Chelatna Lake to Yentna River stretch is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from
far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Alaska Range and you get great scenery. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and
if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wonderful Matanuska-Susitna Borough scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great.
