The wonderful Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The Keystone Canyon section of Lowe River in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Chugach Mountains and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it
on an afternoon. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Keystone Canyon section is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Great
exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Lowe River through the warm months are in the 60's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Lowe River. So many entertaining things
in the Chugach Mountains, just impressive. Rudleston Falls is an inspiring place to visit while you're here. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Bridal Veil Falls, and Snowslide Gulch is around here, and is a fine location. Lowe River is a wet location that gets a lot of precipitation; throughout September this area sees the most rain while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
