The wonderful Alaska scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The Close to Hunter Lake to Caribou Creek section of Matanuska River - East Fork and Main Stem is 17.5 miles long and is a class II+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming
back for more. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. The wild scenery of the Talkeetna Mountains is great. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling
places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
