  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section of McCarthy Creek is 19 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III+(V+) section. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater paddling here in the Wrangell Mountains
    is a great experience. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
The nature scenery of Alaska and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at McCarthy Creek are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling  
rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
For the period of the months of summer at McCarthy Creek highs are ordinarily in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the-10's with temperatures at McCarthy Creek dipping down into the-30's through winter nights. It is very dried out here at McCarthy Creek commonly. Most of the rain falls during July, and March is the month with the least moisture.
