The nature scenery of City & Borough of Juneau Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Juneau it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in
this state are less manageable. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The MCamp Grounduinness Creek to Mendenhall River section of Montana Creek is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III+ section by American Whitewater. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Spaulding Trail is glorious fun. For the duration of the warm days of summer, highs typically are in the 60's at Montana Creek. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. All through
the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at Montana Creek dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. Montana Creek is a wet site that gets much precipitation; of all the months in a year October is the one with the most rain while April is mostly the driest
month. Going for a hike along the West Glacier Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and do schedule some time to visit Mendenhall Peninsula if you have a chance.
