The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wild scenery of the Talkeetna Mountains is great. The natural beauty of Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Moose Creek make the trip here worthwhile. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. This stretch of Moose
Creek in Alaska is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+ section. The Buffalo Mine Road to Glenn Highway stretch is the only paddling stretch along Moose Creek. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: At Moose Creek you don’t see much rain; September is the wettest month with most rain while March is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Tsadaka Canyon is a wonderful spot to explore nearby. Through the summertime months, highs typically
are in the 60's at Moose Creek. For the period of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and night lows at Moose Creek through the wintertime mostly fall into the 0's.
